【摘要】:Thispracticeisintendedforthepreparationofstandardspecimensofsoil-asphaltmixturessuitablefortestsofTestMethodsD1559,D1560,D1561,D4123,andothertestsusingspecimensoftheabovedimensions.Thispracticeislimitedtoonlyfine-grainedsoilsasdefinedin6.1.Note18212;Thequalityoftheresultsproducedbythispracticeisdependentonthecompetenceofthepersonnelperformingitandthesuitabilityoftheequipmentandfacilitiesused.AgenciesthatmeetthecriteriaofPracticeD3740aregenerallyconsideredcapableofcompetentandobjectivetesting,sampling,inspection,andsoforth.UsersofthispracticearecautionedthatcompliancewithPracticeD3740doesnotinitselfensurereliableresults.Reliableresultsdependonmanyfactors;PracticeD3740providesameansofevaluatingsomeofthosefactors.1.1Thispracticecoverstheselectionandproportioningofsoilsandemulsifiedorcutbackasphaltsandthefabricationof4-in.(102-mm)diameterby2.5-in.(54-mm)hightestspecimens.1.2AllobservedandcalculatedvaluesshallconformtotheguidelinesforsignificantdigitsandroundingestablishedinPracticeD6026.1.3Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasstandard,exceptasnotedasfollows.ThevaluesgiveninparenthesesaremathematicalconversionstoSIunits,andareprovidedforinformationonlyandarenotconsideredstandard.1.3.1Thegravitationalsystemofinch-poundunitsisusedwhendealingwithinch-poundunits.Inthissystem,thepound(lbf)representsaunitofforce(weight),whiletheunitformassisslugs.1.3.2Theslugunitofmassisalmostneverusedincommercialpractice(density,scales,balances,andsoforth).Therefore,thestandardunitformassinthispracticeiseitherkilogram(kg)orgram(g),orboth.Also,theequivalentinch-poundunit(slug)isnotgiven.1.3.3Itiscommonpracticeintheengineering/constructionprofessionintheUnitedStatestoconcurrentlyusepoundtorepresentbothaunitofmass(lbm)andofforce(lbf).Thisusecombinestwoseparatesystemofunits,theabsolutesystemandthegravitationalsystem.Itisscientificallyundesirabletocombinetheuseoftwoseparatesetsofinch-poundunitswithinasinglestandard.Asstatedin,thispracticeusesthegravitationalsystemanddoesnotpresenttheslugunitformass.However,theuseofscalesorbalancesrecordingpoundsofmass(lbm)ortherecordingofdensityinlbm/ft3shallnotberegardedasnonconformancewiththispractice.1.4Thispracticeoffersasetofinstructionsforperformingoneormorespecificoperations.Thisdocumentcannotreplaceeducationorexperienceandshouldbeusedinconjunctionwithprofessionaljudgment.Notallaspectsofthispracticemaybeapplicableinallcircumstances.ThisASTMstandardisnotintendedtorepresentorreplacethestandardofcarebywhichtheadequacyofagivenprofessionalservicemustbejudged,norshouldthisdocumentbeappliedwithoutconsiderationofaproject''smanyuniqueaspects.Theword"Standard"inthetitleofthisdocumentmeansonlythatthedocumenthasbeenapprovedthroughtheASTMconsensusprocess.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
